The quoted market research group YouGov owns the BrandIndex that measures public perception about 1100 consumer brands. Public perception about the equity value of YouGov based on its share price has slipped 40% since May 2008. It is a good job stockmarket prices aren’t the only measure of a brands worth.
With a YouGov market value of over £102m this is still two and a half times estimated sales for 2008. Interestingly it is also double the value of the net assets so ‘Goodwill’ is valued at £51m despite the fall in share prices over the last 4 months.
Your business should plan and manage to enshrine and encapsulate equity value. Becoming worth double the annual sales and double the asset value is a great target.
